Oliver Thorne is now an accredited ‘Action Against Medical Accidents’ panel lawyer
Oliver Thorne, the lawyer who heads up the Medical Accident Lawyers team, has been appointed to the Action Against Medical Accidents Specialist Clinical Negligence Panel.
Action Against Medical Accidents, better known as AvMA, is an independent charity that was set up in 1982 to promote patient safety and offer advice and support to patients affected by a medical accident.
The charity saw that many patients were being let down by the legal profession through lack of specialist expertise. AvMA therefore established the first accreditation scheme for clinical negligence lawyers, known as the AvMA Specialist Clinical Negligence Panel.
For a lawyer to be appointed to the AvMA panel they must demonstrate that they have the required specialist skillset in the complex area of clinical negligence law. They must also be committed to seeking justice for those patients and their families who have suffered as a result of a medical accident, showing a willingness to go the extra mile on behalf of their clients.
Accredited practitioners must possess both medical as well as legal knowledge, as well as having an empathy with patients who have been harmed by negligent treatment. The charity requires solicitors to show high levels of customer care and knowledge of all the ways to resolve clinical disputes, including mediation, complaints procedures, inquests, Human Rights law, and fitness to practise procedures. Practitioners are required to sign up to the AvMA code of conduct, and seek reaccreditation every five years to remain on the panel.
Being a member of the Action Against Medical Accidents panel has become a recognised quality mark. Anyone who has been the victim of a medical accident can therefore appoint Oliver Thorne to deal with their clinical negligence claim safe in the knowledge that their legal case is in the hands of a genuine, independently accredited specialist.
