Details of the claim
Our client went to his GP with a blister and cellulitis of his foot. The GP failed to examine his foot or make any arrangements for the care of the ulcer, other than for that the practice nurse to continue dressing the wound. Our client went to his GP practice on nine further occasions, and eventually they decided that he needed specialist input. He was informed that a referral would be made, but this was not sent to him.
Two months after consulting his GP our client was admitted to hospital with an infection in his foot which had turned necrotic. He underwent amputation on his left fourth and fifth toes and part of his foot.
Case for negligence
The compensation claim was taken on under our popular no win, no fee arrangement. This meant that our client did not need to pay any upfront fees.
We contacted our client’s medical practitioners, alleging that they had failed to examine, consider and treat his foot ulcer. This included a specific failure to make an earlier referral to a specialist. Had an earlier referral been made, our client would have avoided the amputation.
Caroline obtained independent expert medical reports which supported the claim. Following negotiations with the defendants an out of court settlement was reached, with our client receiving over £100,000 in compensation.
